The CMS Collaboration announces 38 new results for Moriond 2026.
Here are the highlights of what we have presented so far.
CMS reports an independent confirmation of the observed excess of top quark pair events at the production threshold (TOP-25-002). The observation of an excess in the dilepton channel was reported by CMS in 2024, and later confirmed by ATLAS. In the new result, CMS uses top quark pair events with a single lepton, and observes a cross section of 5.1 ± 0.9 pb, consistent with that previously reported in the dilepton channel. The single-lepton channel is statistically independent of the dilepton channel, and is less sensitive to systematic uncertainties arising from the jet energy scale calibration and top quark mass. The observed excess of events is consistent with a simplified model of a color-singlet pseudoscalar toponium motivated by nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics.
Other highlights span the full range from precision measurements and Higgs physics to searches for new physics.
Several new standard model measurements are presented. A triple-differential measurement of Z boson production in association with jets provides high-precision data for detailed studies of parameters and theoretical predictions in quantum chromodynamics (SMP-24-010). On the other hand, the new measurements of diboson production give improved access to the study of electromagnetic interactions, and the understanding of the Higgs mechanism, expected to govern the process of vector-boson scattering (SMP-25-013, SMP-23-001).
In the area of flavour physics, CMS reports a measurement of the differential branching fraction and angular observables in B→ϕμμ decays (BPH-23-003) and a search for B decays into 4 muons (BPH-24-007). Both results are competitive with the latest results from LHCb.
In Higgs physics, detailed studies of the angular distributions are used to study the CP symmetry properties of H→ττ decays (HIG-25-012). CMS reports a new measurement using the full Run 2 data of the Higgs boson mass in the decay into two photons (HIG-24-007).
Searches are performed using a wide range of signatures and set stringent limits on new physics scenarios.
Searches for events with multiple scalar particles HH or HY are reported, for resonant production in two final states, bbττ (B2G-25-004) and bbZ(ll)Z(jj) (B2G-24-022), and in nonresonant production in bbWW(llνν) (HIG-25-018). Searches for light additional Higgs bosons are reported in the channels with two leptons and missing transverse momentum (NPS-25-002), with b quarks and tau leptons (NPS-25-003), and with two muons and two tau leptons (SUS-23-005).
A new result addresses searches with four top quarks (TOP-24-017); it is complementary to previous analyses, as it covers final states with hadronically decaying tau leptons. A search for resonant production of four top quarks is also reported (B2G-25-005). A search for high-mass W’ bosons using partial Run 3 data sets exclusion limits at 5.6 TeV (EXO-24-021).
Searches for exotic signatures are reported across several channels. In particular, a search for soft unclustered energy patterns in association with a hard gluon exploits CMS scouting data (EXO-23-001). Using muons from Z boson decays, the bremsstrahlung of dark photons is studied (EXO-23-008). A search for long-lived heavy neutral leptons decaying into final states with displaced muons is also reported (EXO-24-015).
