Science & Art @ School returns with an action packed programme for schools local to CERN!

After a successful pilot program last school year, the art@CMS local school engagement programme “Science & Art @ School” brought together almost 180 primary school pupils, age 7, from areas close to CERN, Collonges and Thoiry this year. The programme began with teacher training at CERN, followed by hands-on science lessons delivered directly in the classrooms by CMS physicists. In April and May, all participating classes were invited to visit CERN experimental sites, as well explore the Science Gateway and take part in a series of creative workshops combining science and art all afternoon. Back at school, pupils continued working with their teachers to transform their scientific inspiration into meaningful artistic reflections. The project beautifully demonstrates how pedagogues take contemporary art and modern science to enrich school curricula and inspire young minds.

On Tuesday, 23 June, the first exhibition opening took place at the Collonges library. The impressive artworks created by seven-year-old pupils showcased both the children's creativity and the remarkable work of their teachers in integrating scientific inspiration into everyday learning. On Friday 26th we will inaugurate the exhibition in the Saal de Fetes, presenting the final results from the pupils of Thoiry.

The celebrations continued on Saturday 27th during the Kermesse Festival in Collonges as well as in Thoiry. Meanwhile, in Collonges, the participating classes performed a dance inspired by the Science & Art @ School programme at on the lawn in front of the school.
